When to go on the Kathmandu-Mansarovar Group-Joining Tour?

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra season has two ideal windows. The first is spring (May to June). During this season, the weather is pleasant with the temperatures hovering between 5°C and–15°C. You will find clear skies and blooming rhododendron. This is the time that the Nepal-China (Tibet) border reopens after winter closures.

Autumn (September to October) is another ideal season. You will find stable weather with minimal rain. The views of the mountains and landscapes are unobstructed during this season. However, as you travel to a higher altitude, you may experience cold daytime temperatures (0°C–12°C) with freezing nights.

While traveling in the monsoon season (July to August) is possible, it is best to avoid this season as heavy monsoon rains can cause landslides, obstructing the journey.

Kathmandu-Mansarovar Group- Joining Tour Difficulty and Altitude Sickness

The Kathmandu-mansarovar tour is a mix of comfortable bus/jeep travel and challenging treks. While most road travel does not require any strenuous activities, the high-altitude treks can be adventurous and physically demanding.

On the road, you will spend 5 to 6 hours daily traveling from one destination to another. Whereas, in higher elevations, you will trek 6-8 hours over rugged Himalayan terrain and combat the thin atmosphere.

Altitude sickness can be a serious concern. If you don’t follow the instructions of the expert guides, you may experience symptoms like headache, nausea, and dizziness. However, you can mitigate the risk by gradually incorporating acclimatization stops, staying hydrated by drinking 3 to 4 liters of water daily. In case you experience any symptoms, you can take preventative medications like Diamox (after consulting a doctor).
